Tag a link. Know which campaign brought people to your site.

Use names you will recognize in your analytics. The link stays on this page until you copy it.

Quick source
Optional tags

Existing query details and the page anchor are kept.

Add a page link, source, medium, and campaign name. Your finished link will appear here.

Links are built in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste the page link you want to share.
  2. Name the source, medium, and campaign.
  3. Copy the tagged link and use it in your post.

See where a visit came from

A campaign link is an ordinary link with a few extra labels. Those labels tell a compatible website analytics tool where a visitor came from. Use them to distinguish a LinkedIn post from an Instagram bio link or an email announcing the same product.

The destination page stays the same. The added tags give your analytics more context when someone follows the link. This builder creates the URL; your website analytics tool records and reports visits.

What to put in each field

Source names the place you shared the link, such as linkedin, instagram, or newsletter. Medium describes the kind of traffic, such as social or email. Campaign groups the links for one promotion, such as autumn-launch. Use short, consistent names that you will recognise later.

The optional content field can separate two versions of a post or two links in one email. The optional term field is useful when your campaign needs a keyword label. Leave optional fields empty when they do not answer a real reporting question.

Keep campaign names consistent

Choose one naming style and reuse it. Lowercase words with hyphens are easy to read. If you call the same campaign autumn-launch in one post and Autumn Launch in another, your analytics tool may separate them into different rows.

Use campaign tags for links you share outside your website. Do not put email addresses, customer names, or other private information in them: the finished URL is visible to anyone who receives it. Test that the page opens correctly before adding the link to scheduled posts.

Common questions

Does this shorten my link?

No. It adds campaign tags to the original URL. The finished link still opens the same page.

Does OpenPost track clicks in this tool?

No. This tool builds a link locally. Use a compatible analytics service on your website to read the campaign tags.

Can I tag an existing campaign link?

Yes. Required tags are updated with the values you enter. Review the finished link before copying it, especially if the original already contains optional tags.
